Environment, Natural Resources and Wildlife Assistant Minister, Prof Wangari Maathai over the weekend revealed she had founded her party the Mazingira Green Party of Kenya.

Maathai said the party would be identified along the Green political parties across Europe, which stood for safe environmental practice.

She expressed optimism with Narc, remarking "we can easily say that we are the green in the Rainbow. We feel very much at home and hope people won't misconstrue us."

Maathai was speaking on Saturday evening at a victory party in her honour by Tetu women at a Nairobi hotel.

She was later feted by the women, who dressed her in a Kikuyu Ceremonial dress tailored from four goatskins, complete with necklaces and earrings made from beads. The dress signifies her first entry into Parliament.

Maathai said she will push the Government to adopt the long Easter Holidays as an occasion for tree planting.

"As the Lord resurrects, so is the tree that he was crucified on," quipped Maathai.
