The civil servant slapped by First Lady Lucy Kibaki on December 12 last year has now been removed from his powerful post in the Office of the President.

Mr F. K. Musyimi, the Principal Administrative Secretary, has been moved to the Ministry of Local Government as Secretary, Local Authorities Administration.

The post he formerly held at the OP placed him at No. 2 after Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet, Mr Francis Muthaura.

Mr Musyimi was slapped by the First Lady for erroneously referring to her as Mrs Lucy Wambui, a controversial reference, given past efforts by the President to refute claims that he had a second family with Nyeri PNU activist Mary Wambui.

Top gear

The incident occurred when political campaigns were in top gear, and Mr Musyimi's fate has been hanging in the balance since.

At Jogoo House, Mr Musyimi has been allocated an office and the name tag is placed conspicuously next to where Local Government Minister Uhuru Kenyatta's personal assistant sits.

Last week, Imenti Central MP Gitobu Imanyara owned up to rumours, that he was slapped by Mrs Kibaki at State House during a meeting the Head of State had with MPs from smaller parties.

The meeting was to discuss the then impending election of Speaker of the National Assembly and his deputy.
