Guards threaten Ogiek group

By NATION Correspondent

Forest guards at Kirandit in Tinet Settlement Scheme yesterday threatened to evict members of the Ogiek community unless they move out voluntarily by today.

The 5,016 families were on May 13 directed by the Nakuru DC, Mr John Litunda, to vacate the controversial forest area and give way for a re-afforestation programme.

Residents of Kibongwoi village in the scheme said yesterday that the more than 50 guards moved round and threatened the community with eviction.

Councillor Charles Rono said that fear and tension had gripped the area following night raids by aggressors.
