Kenyan opposition puts death toll at over 1,500


The number of people killed following the December general election in Kenya has been estimated at over 1,5000, Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) official said here on Monday.

The officials are in Ethiopia,Addis Ababa to lobby against president Kibaki at the ongoing AU summit whom they accuse of setting up a « civilian coup » by « stealing the voices of the people ».

Professor Peter Anyang Nyong’o, Secretary-General of ODM said more than 1,500 Kenyans « have perished in the hands of state security agents while 300,000 have been internally displaced. »

Professor Nyongo’ indicated that the ongoing violence in Kenya has a « tribal nature ».

Trouble also erupted Monday in western town, Kisumu where ODM officials confirmed the death of one person so far.
